Maziar Behrooz is professor at the History Department of San Francisco State University. His books include of Rebels with a Cause: The Failure of the Left in Iran (London, 1999), republished in paperback 2000 and 2024; translated into Persian (2001) and Turkish (2006).  Taʼammolāti pirāmun-e tārikh-e shureshiyān-e ārmānkhvāh dar Irān: majmuʻeh-ye maqālāt va mosāhebehhā (Tehran, 2006), a collection of articles and interviews on the left movement in Iran translated into Persian. His current research project is about late 18th century-early 19th century encounters between Iran and the Western world and is titled: Iran at War: Interactions with the Modern World and the Struggle with Imperial Russia (London, 2023), translated into Persian in 2025.
